Frequently asked questions

You’ve got questions, we've got answers.

How often should I replace my wax guards?

We recommend replacing your wax guards about once per week, or sooner if you notice reduced sound or visible buildup. Wax guards are one of the most important parts of routine hearing aid maintenance because earwax can block sound and reduce performance.

How often should I replace my ear domes?

For the best fit, comfort, and sound quality, we recommend replacing your ear domes every 2–4 weeks. Replace them sooner if they become discolored, damaged, loose, or difficult to clean.

Why is hearing aid maintenance so important?

Hearing aids sit inside or around your ears every day, where they’re exposed to earwax, moisture, oils, and debris. Regular maintenance helps prevent buildup that can lead to lower volume, muffled sound, poor fit, and unnecessary wear on your devices.

Can a dirty wax guard make my hearing aids sound quieter?

Yes. A clogged wax guard is one of the most common reasons a hearing aid may suddenly sound quieter or muffled. Replacing the wax guard can often restore clear sound in just a few minutes.

Could improper maintenance affect my warranty?

Proper care and maintenance are important for keeping your Audien hearing aids in good working condition. Damage or performance issues caused by improper care, excessive buildup, or failure to maintain the device may not be covered under your warranty. Using the Audien Maintenance Kit makes it easy to stay on top of routine care.

I’d use this wording rather than saying maintenance automatically “voids your warranty” unless that exact condition is explicitly written into your warranty terms.

What happens if I don’t replace my wax guards?

Over time, earwax can clog the sound outlet and prevent your hearing aids from working properly. This may result in weaker sound, distortion, feedback, or a device that appears to have stopped working altogether.

Do I really need replacement domes if mine still look okay?

Yes. Ear domes naturally wear down with everyday use, even when they still look fine. Fresh domes help maintain a comfortable seal, secure fit, and consistent sound quality.

Can regular maintenance help my hearing aids last longer?

Yes. Keeping your hearing aids clean and replacing high-wear components regularly can help protect them from wax and debris buildup, supporting better performance and longer device life.
